I am assuming you bought fewer than 10 sets calipers?

I did. Just a single sample set. They had no issues with that. Still paid the $70/ea. $140 for calipers, $120 for shipping, $18.20 in tax. Total cost for the set was $278.20.

I did contemplate setting up a group buy for 10 sets at first. They quoted me $680 shipping for the 10 sets. But in the end, decided against it.

How many cans did you go through?

Just the single can. 4 coats on each caliper before it started to feel like it was going to start sputtering.

I’d be down to get 10 people together 😂

You want to do it, go a head. Factory was super easy to work with, and always quick to respond to messages. I'm usually pretty quick to try and help people out, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

I really appreciate you linking it and not gatekeeping. Truly a bro

The official finished pic

Ordered pads & fluid from RockAuto, the usual Powerstop Z23 & Pentosin Super Dot4. I had like 4L of a 5L jug from when I had bled the brakes on my white R about 9 months ago, but realized the jug wasn't air tight sealed. So for $40, I'd rather just buy a new jug.

Lines, ordered the Neuspeed ones from Uro. If they get here this week, then I'll put them on this coming Saturday. That will give them a full week of cure time.

Calipers came out great. You can't go wrong with a 2K paint for calipers, powder coating would be optimal, but that 2K should last way longer than any "caliper paint". I always thought the R came with Blue calipers. Anyway, wait 30 days (you don't really have to) and coat them as soon as you can. Clean them well, do an IPA wipe and coat. That will definitely protect the paint and the sticker for a long time. Depending on the coating you can redo it every year.

I do one light-med coat, then 1 to 2 wet coats at the interval recommended.

Thanks. The ones I put in my GTI that I had powder coated did come out better. But this was $40 and an hour of my time, and got me 90% of the way there. Vs. $200 and 2 - 3 weeks waiting for my local place to powder coat them.

MK8's have blue calipers, but 7/7.5's are black.

God damn, why didn't I think of this? Thanks for the suggestion, I still have some ceramic coating left from my wheels. I probably won't wait the 30 days, but do it the day before I put them on. Which will be at least the 7 days of cure time, depending on when my lines get delivered.

But you didn't purposely put them there. So it's not as bad.

The list of brake 'holy n00b'ness of wrong logos, in descending order:

3) @swcrow having TT RS logos. They came on the brakes by default, and they are really good brakes. But also didn't go out of your way to get rid of the logo. Gets a pass.

2) @dtfd having PORSCHE text on his Macans. Went out of his way to put the 'PORSCHE' decal on, but they do technically say 'PORSCHE' underneath the powder coating. No cummies for you.

1) @riceburner having R logos on his GTI SE with GTI brakes. Yes, the R came with the same size brakes. But neither are those from an R, or going on an R. Purposely upbadging. I'm deleting you daddy!
Didn't you buy Chinese puddle lights and fake Brembos? Just asking.

All puddle lights come from China.

And they don't actually say Brembo anywhere on them, so they're not pretending to be something they're not.

If you wanted to go all out, you can do a baked on ceramic coat in lieu of powdercoat, but they don't look shiny. We used Fireball Talon on my SM-10s and it's held up well to heat, they said it might last up to a year on calipers.
