I had that once. Mine made a very loud sound too that scared the hell out of me.

Reset it, and it has worked fine since, and this happened over a year ago.

The explanation is the chip used inside gets so hot it backs out of its soldered socket...the idea behind this is to heat it up so that it melts the solder again so the chip slides back into place.
