Uncommon Parts Numbers AKA Let's Not Get Ripped Off Thread

is there a case where, and maybe we need a different topic, there is a common part number across the VAG group but we will get charged different prices?

I am thinking standard air filter, from Audi it would cost x but is y if you get it from Skoda, yet all are the same part?

I actually was able to order through my dealer, but I can confirm this is the best OEM RSB for our cars!

I want these for my Golf Wagon. OEM dark chrome exhaust tips. Part number: 5G0071911041

I can confirm these look like absolute sh!t on a car. Anyone I know who has ever put these on have promptly discarded them. Don't waste your money.

like where this thread is going! :)

This! Will be posting some info here soon!

Yep! I hear you can get the China OEM power folding mirrors for ~$220 on AliExpress. Steal!

If anyone can find them and post a link it'd be appreciated. AliExpress is blocked from work. So it's blocked for the next 5 months.

I can confirm these mirrors from AliE are great! not sure where else we can link you from though.

Here's a quirky one for you kids who own GTI's/R's etc..

VW charges you approximately double for an oil filter because.. racecar? Same Mann Filter PN HU 6002, double the price. Pro tip - use the filter specified for the golf 1.8T.

I purchased mine from Aliexpress from the vendor shown in the pic, 234.00 shipped via DHL, once shipped took about 3 days overall a bit less than a week they take a few days before actually shipping the item. They are going to be a year old next month. I recommend using Sabo's guide on how to install them.

Do you have a link to sabos guide?

Someone please enlighten me as to why spending money on a metal oil pan is worthwhile? Serious question.

Two reasons I can think of with varying levels of validity:

  1. More likely to dent or scratch on impact instead of crack, which means you keep the oil in the engine.
  2. May have some benefits for keeping the oil cooler.
That said, I'm sure VW thought long and hard about it before making it plastic, and I don't think I've seen many reports of one actually breaking.

However, the point of this thread is where we can find these OEM parts for less. :) And I'm sure E-ACCA is going to be way cheaper than one of the aftermarket shops or the dealer. (That's why I asked for price/location, BTW.)

A related read.. Careful with this link... It's a hazard to your wallet.:(

For those looking for OEM Golf R tinted tail lights, best price I've found was on e-acca as well. $500 USD shipped to North America. Part number for those of us that drive on the left: 5G1052200. Yes, the description on e-acca makes them sound aftermarket, but a vortex member on this next link confirms that they are in fact legit OEM.

Also, If you're like myself and fear getting bent over by customs and the couriers upon delivery, send the same site an email and they're often willing to reduce the declared value to an amount of your choosing.

Edit: Lights may be cheaper here actually: http://www.wagen-shop.com/en/
