Hi guys,

I have 2017 GTI 22,000 miles. 2days ago, the engine malfunction indicator was turned on. I brought my car VW service center the day after.
They said spark plugs are burned so fast it caused by carbon scraps in manifold and this is not under warranty. They give me the quote $999 for the spark plugs replacement and cleaning carbon scraps. The car is fully stock and I'm the first owner. I only give the Mobil 91 Octane.

I feel they overcharged me. Do you guys think really does it make sense?

I would fight for warranty coverage. That is a preposterous reason!

The price sounds high, but that's normal for a dealership (there's a reason they call them stealerships).

For your reference; I paid about $600 CAD to have this done on my mk6 GTi, which (at the time) had 150,000 kms on it. And a good set of iridium spark plugs will usually cost about $100 CAD (these are Canadian prices, so, again, your price should be much lower). I also have no idea what kind of spark plugs this car is recommended to use.

THAT being said, your engine's head and intake manifold shouldn't need carbon deposit cleaning until 100k miles, so there is DEFINITELY something wrong with your car.

It sounds like they are just repairing the issue, and not truly diagnosing the problem. Time to escalate, or get a second opinion from a VW specialist shop (or anyone with VCDS who can read the CEL codes properly)

Like the comments above, this should be covered under warranty. Did you check this with another dealership.

Agree with everyone above, there's no way you should need carbon cleaning this early. I didn't do it until 90k miles on my MKV, which was known for being worse than the MK7. Definitely sounds like there's something deeper going on that should be covered under warranty.

Yeah, never heard of a carbon cleaning at 22,000.
I remember hearing about some perhaps as early as 40,000 to 50,000 on some MK6's.
Doesn't sound right.

What were the codes for the MIL?

And plugs and carbon buildup are not covered under warranty. I suspect it's something else. What are the codes, he asks again

I don't have service receipt but it was misfiring code. 10300 and two more else.

I already let them do it.

I will have my car at 4 pm so I do not pay yet. Should I fight with them?

I can't stand this shitty sentra

At the very least find out why they think the spark plug burned so fast.

That seems like a pertinent mystery to solve.

My friend, welcome to VW and their scams. The entire brand is a shambles now. I presume Audi too since they’re under the VW branch. Trust me, you’ll have to pay and they won’t cover a dime. I’ve had my car 4 months and I’ve been to the dealer 4 times, about to 5 in a week. This is only the beginning of your VW woes

Not covered under warranty? Ya....no way, fuck that. Call VWOA and they should intervene.

You're not even at year 1, which covers even wear/tear items like the clutch, so don't give in to that bullshit!
