Not necessarily exclusive to this forum, model or brand, but something I've always found curious...why does nearly everyone blur/blank out/physically cover their license plates when posting images of their cars?

Is it to preserve their online anonymity - perhaps a measure toward keeping others from associating their online identity with their real-world one via some licensing database or something?

Or is it some other reason or vulnerability I've overlooked?
I always wear my tin foil hat and blur my license plate when posting online.

I think it's mostly the anonymity thing, especially when tuned. There have been a few stories of dealers lurking in forums and then denying warranty work...but I don't know if any of that is actually true.

I asked this a while ago on a different thread and got the answers:
-anonyminity to dealers
-people don't want to be recognized by police if they are posting videos of them racing/doing other illegal things
-you can pay a service (or find out for free if you know someone) someone's name, phone number, address, etc. with a license plate number tied to a registration

The last one hits home with me because we recently had to ask a family friend who was a sheriff to find someone who was poaching deer on our family land based on a trail cam photo of their license plate

It just now clicked that I saw you driving through Alameda down Park street a while back. The red/carbon badge color scheme is hard to forget

Cool beans. Is that your white GTI in your sig? I think I remember that day. Do you have plaid license plate frames and folding mirrors?

I had an mk6.... the mk7 is louder when braking.... bothered me at first but the drone of the sport mode pretty much drowned it out over time. Enjoy the car!

I just re-used the oil drain plug. Any repercussions?

From what I remember as long as you replace the o-ring you never have to replace the plug. Other members have reused it (and original o-ring... not sure) up to 3 times before replacing it for peace of mind.

You can pay the DMV money to run a plate check, but unless you are affiliated with the law in some way the information a normal person can get is pretty limited. I don't think you can get an address or anything, but you can get first and last name I believe. So then its just a matter of using social media or phonebook or whatever.

I run a black and yellow vintage plate on my car like Gogo GTI (actually had issues picking mine up because I did the same configuration as the plate originally came with, 3 space 3, and the computer didn't like that). They look great with the CSGM compared to the simple white CA plate.

Does the US 2017 Autobahn have the SD card slot in the glove box? There are so many overseas drivers on this forum that I can’t tell if it’s only outside US that got this feature. I’m liking the idea of putting my music library on one so I can free up the USB and use Cover Flow with Apple CarPlay.

Thanks everybody.

It actually has two SD card slots. One is used for the nav maps. Or not, I guess; the system doesn't care. Take out the nav maps and use the second slot for another card with music, or podcasts, or whatever.

There are two?! Is one empty from the factory? If so, it seems like I would leave it in and just use the empty one for music, etc., yes?

Is the maps card labeled?

Does the 2017 Autobahn without Driver Assistance Package have a camera, or no? I’m looking through OBDEleven tweaks and am not sure. I know it has adaptive cruise and emergency braking, but I am not sure if these systems use a camera, or another type of sensor.

Does anyone have a Escort Max, 2, 360? How does yours perform. I'm getting a warning, at best, 2,000-3,000 feet facing directly at a cop car. Is that good? I get maybe get 1,500 feet detection facing the back of the cop car. I don't get detection when a cop is parked on the other side of a 8 lane highway. And it only works in highway mode and city sensitivity is horrible. I may have a defective radar?

It’s a radar detector not a Cop detector. A couple of things, the cops could be actually working and performing instant on and being selective with their customers, the distance will vary depending on terrain sometimes even with the best long range detectors you only get a short warning.
If you want range get a Redline,Uniden, V1 and others that are very good at that.
360 & Max are good all in one detector but they are not the best with range, joint a countermeasure forum and you’ll get better non bias info ( no way to get rid of fanboys)
