Alrighty so my engine blew not long ago after going hybrid turbo e85 on a >150k mile stock GTI engine. I’ve scoured the internet and looked at all my options, consulted with multiple engine builders, bought a 96 Honda with a B series engine, and now bought a Chinese assembled EA 888 Gen 3 engine (CNTA; which was my engine code) on AliExpress.
Now I know this is a sketchy idea but hear me out. After being in communication with them I’m optimistic that the engine will last longer than it’s 1 year unlimited mile warranty. Reason I went this route is A. Price (2.5k shipped) B. It is a new fully assembled long block with what they call ex-factory VW/Audi parts assembled to factory spec C. I can then build this engine with the forged internals I’ve bought over time. D. Research..and sharing my woes if it all falls through lol.
They seem to be a supplier of mostly EA888 Gen 1/2/3 as according to their stock they have a crap ton of these engines compared to their other offerings.
I’ll update this post with updates as they come .. expected delivery is October but I may request expedited shipping because I’ve been without the GTI since March
