Hello everyone.

I've been wanting to create a build thread since I owned my car but kept putting it off. Almost seven years later, here I am creating it now. Figured this would be a great way to get advice, thoughts, & feedback on my build. Pictures and more soon to come.

I picked my 2016 GTI in late 2017 with 100 miles. I was told I picked up the last 2016 GTI on the east coast. Apparently this dealership I purchased from (has since closed) had the last two 2016's. One in manual, one in DSG. The manual was sold a few days prior to my purchase.

The rest of 2017 kept the vehicle mostly stock. I installed the first version of IE's intake and a GFB DV+. Changed some pieces to gloss black. Even had the golfmk7 forum sticker on the rear window. I'm not even sure if those stickers are still a thing lol

2018

Early 2018 - 20% tint all around (except front windshield), EMD springs, EMD RSB, AWE track exhaust, and Cobb AP Stage 1 were installed. So much for keeping it stock.

Mid 2018 - scored a great deal on some Enkei's TSP6 wrapped in Blizzaks. Also bought and installed a catless MAP downpipe.

2019

Early 2019 - swapped the catless MAP downpipes for a catted MAP downpipe. Converted from the AWE track to touring. Purchased a used IE v1 intercooler from FB and BFI stage 1 mounts all around. Both were installed at NGP.

The smell from the catless downpipe was too much for my passengers and I. Paired with the AWE track, it was a tad too loud for me. I found the MAP catted downpipe and AWE touring to be a good combination. It sounds refined and is not obnoxiously loud.

Also had a bit of an accident in the parking lot. Ripped my passenger side skirt off back out. Had two hours of sleep and backed into a curb. Damaged my rocker panel too. Have not gotten this fixed yet.

Mid to end of 2019 - moved to upstate NY. I no longer had easy access to a garage so the mods took a pause. I was able to install a Alltrack skid plate and the Audi jack pad were installed.

2020

Early 2020 - the pandemic hit. I was still living in NY when it hit. Everything was shut down. My car was barely driven from early to mid 2020.

End of 2020 - I moved back to PA. I finally had access to a garage and so the modding begins. I had to scratch that itch that so many of us had caught.

I was at NJMP for NASA's Icebreaker event. First time with the GTI on the track. I signed up for the Hyperdrive event and had a good time. My instructor was great and really took the time to help me during the 25 minutes we had on the track. I didn't have any reservations with the GTI, but what a confidence boost I had in my vehicle.

Met some other MQB owners. Saw a GT4RS and a ton of wild track builds.

I picked up my subframe from powdercoating. Very happy with how it turned out. Color: caveman black.

The goal was to keep it looking as OEM as possible (even though many will never see the color of it). The shop's online website had a photo of a color of an intake manifold that would match the aluminum subframe very closely. Unfortunately, the color was discontinued. I went with the next best color to match the steel subframe that is coming off the vehicle. I was recommended against any glossy colors. The shop recommended either flat colors or ones that provide some additional texture.
