2017 R 6MT Slow Clutch Hydraulics

Anybody notice their clutch is slow to engage? When quickly rowing through gears I release the clutch quickly but it does not engage following the motion of my foot which makes each gear change buck a little. I test drove a 2016 with only 5k miles before purchasing my 2017 and it was the same. I've driven many manual vehicles from an F750 to a turbo Cobalt SS and everything in between and have never felt as slow of an engagement as this. Closest was my 2000 Camaro Z28 which had a value built into the clutch master cylinder line that was there to make for a smoother engagement but most people drilled this valve out to allow for better clutch feel.

Thank's for the info. Didn't know this was an issue across the board for newer cars.

Think about it from a manufacturer's perspective. People don't know how to drive stick anymore, and even among those who own a manual car, tons of them barely even know how to do it properly. They build all these nannies in to prevent long term damage due to improper clutch actuation. The funny thing is, that "delayed engagement" caused by the delay valve restriction inherently builds slip into every single engagement.

Minimize driveline shock load is my guess.

sadly it is, because..

Even BMW throws clutch delays in their manual tranny cars these days.

BMW has been doing this for a long time - my E46 even has one. I removed it from my E86 Z4M Coupe when I still had it, but it made virtually zero noticeable difference, despite raves from people who had done it.

Even the E36 had one from about the 97 MY onward. Seems to be a German car thing designed to reduce driveline shock from aggressive clutch dumping by the driver. We "all" get rid of these clutch delay valves.

I'm still somewhat new to manuals as I've only had the car since July. Would the spring removal be recommended even for a newby? The clutch does feel really vague at times

If you're not grinding any gears now, there's no reason you'd be grinding any gears with the spring removal. Your pedal will simply be a little more firm. I'd recommend the bleeder delay removal in conjunction; otherwise you'll just have a firmer pedal that still hangs revs slightly due to the bleeder delay diaphragm.
