Got my new Golf R (build week 22) that came with the new 6.5" screen + apple carplay etc
First: Omg yes, the maps works perfectly! Free navigation!

Spotify is nice, now I can choose playlist etc instead of only being able to change song. But it is not perfect yet.. Accidentaly tried to start an non-offline song while in offline mode: the thing went bananas!

Messages: Fun, the car will read the texts to me, and I can answer by talking (siri)

Phone function works, but I like the bluetooth more UI more

It's a completely different unit - so it's going to be a big job to change it - I was hoping it would be a firmware update for older cars, even with those, like mine, with Discover Pro.

What might be possible is that those with new Infotainment units may be able to have a firmware update????

The option in the UK is cheap enough - so I wonder.

I am jealous though, my only question about map apps like google maps is that it's no GPS, so areas where the signal is weak, is there going to be a problem or do VW fit advanced phone prep to boost the signal.

Either way, great addition :)

You just answered the two main things I was concerned about. Maps and Spotify.

Looking forward to using Spotify properly in the car when mine arrives.

What limitations are there with apps? Guessing there's only a few compatible? youtube?

You don't think it's just going to be a unit swap? I haven't seen the old unit out of it's home but seeing most other head units, I would think you can just swap it out.

Would be nice to get that upgrade though. Not that I hate the current unit I have but it is tough to switch music from the SD card currently.
