What's It For???

I had rear hatch open and thought I'd pull the hatch release cover off. I saw where the key is inserted to open lid from the inside but I also noticed what looks to be a holder for an emergency flashlight under the cover. There are 2 2" prongs about 7" apart and there's nothing being held. The reason I'm asking is that when I bought the car used, it was missing different items that I've since bought for it to make car complete. The owners manual doesn't address it and salesmen don't have a clue. The next time you open your hatch, take a look under the cover and tell me what you think. Could be another item VW built in and failed to tell the public...

I'm pretty sure there's an OEM road side kit that mounts there, but it's an accessory so it's not technically missing since it wasn't standard from the factory

ECS might carry them, I believe it includes a reflective triangle among other things

It's for the emergency warning triangle that comes with ROW cars.

I happened to have two of the warning triangles in the garage left over from my 2007 GTI.
