As a hint:
Contrary to popular believe VW 504 00 is a much stricter spec than VW 502 00.
I'd highly prefer 504 00 over 502 00 (which is two decades old). That does not
mean that all oils meeting just VW 502 00 spec are worse.
On a side note: VW 507 00, which someone mentioned above, is for VW Diesel
engines with extended intervals (as is 504 00 for gasoline) and particle filter.
However, any oil meeting 504 00 I'm aware of at the same time also meets 507
00 and vice versa. Sadly Diesel particle filters don't allow for huge contains of
anti-wear and friction modifier additives, so we have to live with limited amounts
of them. Despite that VW 504 00/507 00 has the highest requirements regarding
wear on the entire market. If an oil meets this spec it cannot be bad.
