Should I replace my Golf 7 with a 7.5 or stick with what I have?

Hi all. First post!

I bought a Golf Match Edition 2.0 diesel new in April 2016. It is now virtually 8 years old and has 54000 miles on it. Dealer serviced and relatively trouble free (except for the dreaded silica beds in the coolant). I use the car to tow a 1 tonne boat a couple of times a year, which is does with ease. I love the car and have no desire for an electric one any time soon. I need a car like this to see out my boating days (I'm 70 so maybe another 10 years?). I was considering changing it for a 2019/2020 Golf 7.5 to the same spec and with similar or less miles on it. (ruled out a Golf 8 as no 2 litre diesel) My question to the collective mind is should I stick with the car I know and love for (say) another 10 years and take it to120000 miles or so (do they do those sorts of miles reliably?), or risk a change to an unknown but newer car?

54,000 miles is nothing, and you have the peace of mind if having cared for it yourself. If there’s nothing majorly wrong with it, I see no reason to move on.

My opinion exactly. Is mechanical breakdown insurance available there?

Keep it. No reason to change unless there's something about it that annoys you too much to keep. Sounds like it's fine as is so don't waste the money.

Same as above…. You’ve owned since new and know everything about her. Don’t trade that for an unknown
