I would guess the 280lbft that's quoted is a peak figure, 258lbft is over that rev range. Same as the GT, it's 236lbft over a certain range, but then I've seen a dyno test in a German magazine showing a peak of 266lbft. Though dyno's are always to be taken with a pinch of salt!

According to the VW spec published elsewhere a minimum torque of 280 applies between 1750 and 3250 rpm - somewhat at odds with latest VW's brochure.
