More torque with the automatic transmission?

185 lb-ft in the 5 speed and 199lb-ft with available automatic transmission according to the VW website. Anyone know why?

Gearing difference I'd guess.

Must be.

Sorry, posted in the wrong section!

No worries. And there aren't mods here, so it won't get deleted. I was curious so I looked it up. The automatic is a 6 speed, so the manual has taller gearing, thus less torque.

At least that's how I think it works. I definitely am not an expert on gearing.

Are you talking about the DQ250/O2E DSG in the GTI and R, or the six-speed automatic with torque converter that is in the Golf TSI? The torque converter can act as a torque multiplier by allowing engine RPM to reach a more favorable RPM band at a low vehicle speed.

I thought maybe they detuned it because the clutch was weak or something. Gear ratios or a torque converter makes more sense.
