idle speed

Hi , does anyone know why sometimes my gtd will idle at 1000rpm and other times at around the 800 rpm mark . and no its nothing to do with the temp because I can drive for an hour and idle at 1000 ?

Other factors include air con, fan speed, radio/volume etc..basically the load on the engine whilst idling. The battery state of charge may also be a factor.

The car could also be anticipating pulling away again, does it settle down after a minute or so?

Not sure wolksvagen , will monitor it more closely now .
