Hi my MIL light came on my 1.5 TSI R line,
The car is a Bluemotion tech DACA engine.

I had work done earlier today before engine MIL came on, albeit this was after a 100 mile round trip inc highways.

I had a decat reversed by having a exhaust specialist reinstall my OEM downpipe with OEM Cats and had the original map restored, including removal of the CAT delete map. They then reinstalled a performance eco map which took into account the CAT’s being present.

Following a long drive with no issues the engine MiL came on. Initially I thought it may be Oxygen sensor or CAT related, however VCDS shows the code P05A0 Active radiator shutter open stuck. I have read some posts that mainly relate to US Jetta’s which had defunct shutter motors, these were mainly 2016 cars which the technical service bulletins recommended that vehicles which had the older part no needed the flap motor to be superseded by an improved motor with later part no ending in ‘H’ or more recent ones ‘AA’. Mine being a late 2018 should have the later revised part no.

I also read a technical bulletin that states that if this issue occurred on vehicles with later part no’s that it’s not the motor that’s faulty, but a software issue and a dealer software update rectified the issue ?

However after reading the posts I mentioned above I double checked my car and I don’t have this Actice Radiator shutter that sits in between front bumper and radiator pack. Could the Active Radiator shutter fault code in my vehicle be referring to the louvers or shutters in the Rad pack fan shroud ? I’ve attached 2 pics from internet to illustrate what these look like. (Pic 2 and 3)

1. Can someone confirm whether the louvers on the Rad fan pack open and shut via motor ?

2. Or Do Bluemotions come with these bigger Active Radiator Grille shutters depicted in pic 4 and is there a way of using adaptations on VCDS to code it out ?

I raise the latter question because I’m guessing that when the tuner reflashed my map, he may have removed the flap motor bypass coding unwittingly. Those of you who are familiar with the car, will know that the previous owner replaced full front end to Golf R bumpers (along with rest of R exterior updates) and may have had this issue before or not bothered connecting it up properly ? and hence had the coding bypass done because they’ve did not reinstall the Active radiator shutter behind bumper because it would not be compatible with R’ bumper.

If there is a way of using VCDS to code it out any how to guides would be much appreciated. As aforementioned I visually checked and I don’t have the Active radiator shutter that sits between the front bumper and rad pack. I have also tried checking the radiator shroud to see if louvers are linked to a motor but it’s impossible to see really without starting to strip off front panel to access it properlyI ain’t adept enough to undertake that task.

Pic 1 Ive attached pic of VCDS fault code, I have deleted it but it reappears.

Pic 2 and 3 is Radiator shroud louvers

pic 4,5 refers to the large Active radiator shutter that sits between front bumper and rad pack (so far Google search only throws this up for e Golf & some 2015/16 US Jetta’s ?

I've just looked at the VAG workshop book for the EA211 1.5lt engine codes DACA & DADA.

These look as if they both (engine codes) have the "radiator blind" which sits between the radiator & the bumper..as per your pictures 4 & 5....which would explain the VCDS fault....

Looks like another bodge by the previous owner to get more power from the engine....or the car was in a front end crash & badly repaired..

You might be able to code it out...you will have to look at the "coding" section in the engine ECU..

Hi Dave see pics attached from VW Dealer against my VIN,
They can’t seem to locate an Active Radiator shutter. I provided them a Part no for a shutter from an EBay item and they checked the ones in pics that I posted and that comes up for Jetta ? No active Radiator shutter or Active Grille shutter is cross referencing with my car. Bizarre ?

I don't have access to the latest ERWIN......

If your car wasn't supposed to have it (possible) then you need to get the parameter coded out....which means asking what the tuner did...

Thats your main problem...cars been bodged to get more power & you don't have a detailed list of what was actually done...

FYI here is the page from the workshop manual for your engine:-

Thanks for that, how bizarre ? I checked two different VW Dealers parts departments and both sent me the parts diagrams that I posted in my previous posts which display no shutter blind.
I have since had the recurring fault coded out. I returned to the tuner who sent my map off again to be tweaked. it has been now been loaded correctly, no more fault code ! Happy days !
