Cap is definitely on tight. I’ve been to Volkswagen on numerous occasions, first they said water pump, paid £500 and still leaked. Took it back and they then said egr cooler and had to pay £1000. Just checked and coolant still going down. Could the problem be the actual cap?

I'd call VW of UK and complain. I realize you probably have parts there we don't have here in the States but it sounds like you're getting screwed by your dealer. Tell them you want a refund and for the work already done and want to go to another dealer.

Jengli have a read back of your thread from July about coolant! Its head gasket failure, same as I had by the sound of it!Im in the motor trade,we had everyone look at the car,VW,2 specialists,no one had been able to work out what was causing the problem. After a couple of months trying,we took the head off and the gasket had blown between cylinder 2 and the water jacket.

So it created so much pressure in the system it cracked the tank, or is there a relief valve built into the cap?

On another note, I noticed 2018 US R's have a different cap on the coolant bottle than my 2016.

It wont have cracked the tank,we replaced the tank and 2 caps while testing. There is an overflow down the back that the fluid comes out of.Mine was the 1st gasket failure anyone had heard of on the new CUNA engine.

I’ve got no symptoms for a failing gasket, and I’m pretty sure it’s coming out of the top of expansion tank. The amount of times it’s been to vw I’d be disappointed if they hadn’t already checked the gaskets

You HAVE got symptoms of a failed head gasket!Pressure in the header tank forcing coolant out of the over flow!My car was an early 2014 running DTUK tuning system from new,Iv been in the motor trade for 26 years. If you have the same symptoms as I did it’s your head gasket. No VW dealer has X-Ray vision to look inside your engine, the only option it take the head off!
Or you could keep throwing hundreds of pounds at it changing all the ancillaries(I did that too!)
