Thanks, yeah I watched a video. I'm more nervous about the part when you get to the glove box and start messing with the terminals.

I'm doing a suspension install this sunday for another mk7 local. I wonder if the strut mounts design was improved over the mk6. A lot of the mk5/mk6 strut mounts get stripped and you have to cut them out. We'll find out!

When removing the top nut on the strut? I had no issues, but the car also had about 1000 miles on it.

With the battery unhooked, there won't be any issues and it's stupid easy.

Get the terminal tool & it's just swapping a couple wires & plugging the harness in.

The mounts are different shaped (they're angled), but still of the same design.
They actually use the same mount bolts still, lol. But on a newer MK7, shouldn't be an issue. I always put anti-seize on them when I reinstall the bolts along with the swaybar endlink threads, for the future.
And then they added a rubber isolator to the base of the strut (seat)

The strut bearing only installs one way (there is a notch on the mount to line it up with)....so make sure that stays the same.
Outside of that....just use the 2x4 method to remove the strut and it's like a MK5/MK6 still

The rears are a little trickier though, since now 3 bolts go thru each LCA....instead of just the 1 on the MK5/MK6

that fragile light level sensor connected to the drivers side LCA always makes me nervous when working on that corner. It's so flimsy.

Heh I'm not worried about it. Have done a ton of suspension jobs for locals over the years. Sometimes the nutsert just strips out and spins inside of the strut mount. I dont expect to see any issue from a newer mk7.

Been seeing more mk7's lately. Just saw a white 4 door lowered with aftermarket wheels and "urban joke" tail light coding on 34 in Oswego.

Suspension install on the locals mk7 gti went really smooth. Although I have to say I'm not endorsing ST coilovers. They have only one retainer which makes adjusting ride height in the rear take a long time. Ended up taking the spring down again in order to adjust it.

Think I remember that from a post on the MK7 FB page. Seems to be a lot of MK7's around here but not much of an enthusiast community like there was with the MK6.

Actually after working on a MK7 GTI this weekend....the strut mount bolts are different (they have a washer on the bolt)

ST coilovers have the same perches as the MK5/MK6/etc....Konis, KW's, Raceland, new FK's....they're all like that
You can't adjust them on the car....it's easier to just drop the LCA and adjust the perch off the car

ALTHOUGH, it's a pain in the ass on the MK7 since you have the extra 2 bolts going thru it versus a MK6

Just curious, how long did it take you?
