why charcoal?
Keeps it smelling good.
I was glad to get rid of the non-charcoal one that came with the car.

The Mann Frecious plus is literally the OE charcoal filter, with an additional layer to prevent mold growth and it will defeat 100% of allergens.

No it's not. The white media of the Frecious Plus is different from the standard charcoal filter. The FP has a more fuzzy (and thicker) white media than the standard charcoal filter.
+10. It really keeps strong odors from entering the car via the HVAC. Like that nasty exhaust for that POS car in front of you your entire way home from work, etc. Or cigarette smoke from the guy/gal next to you with their window down.

It is a charcoal filter with an additional polyphenol allergen layer.
They are 80% the same thing, I assure you.

The white layer between the FP and standard Mann Charcoal is different.
If you hold them side by side, you will see it.
It sounds like you only looked at Mann's website to form your opinion.
