This just started today and it's another issue in the loooooong list of electrical issues with this car.

The parts fische doesn't show a sensor at all for the hatch.... how does it detect if the hatch is open, and where would I find the part?

I didn’t realize that the rear logo/ handle was $900+, they really making some money, guarantee that they make it for like $20.

Probably a silly question, but are you sure the hatch is closed all the way?

It's interesting the one with the back up camera is like $300 cheaper. That makes no sense.

Sounds like you should have purchased the "extended warranty."

I'm pretty sure the switch is in the latch, not the emblem/opener assembly, so something like this:

https://www.ebay.com/i/322888445978

OP: I'm not 100% certain that's the right part - it's weird that the official VW parts page I linked first says it's no longer available. I can't find a superseding part number... I'm assuming a dealership parts guy could probably get you sorted out.

Before ordering parts, the first thing I'd do is remove the trim from around the rear hatch and re-seat the connector that plugs into the latch.

I'm with rahtx. I would look at the hatch and the connector going to it. Fairly easy to access. Should be a deutsch auto video on tail light harness that should show how to remove the lower trim panel. If the connector is fully seated, I would replace the lock latch 5g6827505b9b9 (not cheap $200ish, significantly cheaper from salvage). See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnTI9je9fh0

Good picture of the part here: https://www.onderdelenlijn.nl/auto-...chterklep-slotmechaniek/onderdeelid/10049142/
