Winter tire time again...

Only reason he would've told you that is if you have bigger calipers and rotors making 15s not fit... which on the standard golf isn't the case, don't know about GTI if they can run 15s, but the golf R definitely can't

My car is stock and just the trim line is an upgrade. I’m going to follow up with my tire guy and see what his reasoning is. Thanks.

So I followed up and my tire specialist got back to me. He deals with two suppliers and he told me that neither supplier has a 15” wheel listed for the car I have. He will follow up with them again on Monday to confirm. He mentioned that previous year Golfs were able to take 15” wheels but that it was possible that this year's model could come with larger brake rotors which would not accommodate a smaller tire. I've worked with him in the past and he's always been professional as is the case right now. He may be right or he may be just misinformed. I did a google search for my car with 15” winters and was not able to find a match or anyone who has this setup.

Did you not read my last post? I just told you there are OEM 15 inch VW 5x112 steel wheels and that I have a set for my car... I even gave you the link with pictures of my car on 15 inch rims. Your "tire specialist" probably doesn't deal with OEM rims and most aftermarket manufactures don't make steelies...

The size of the rotor on the base Golf tsi is 288mm, doesn't matter if its a trend line golf or a highline, they all have the same brake rotor size. This rotor size fits a 15 inch rim, which makes sense because the trend line golf comes with 15 inch aluminum rims.

I don't know what else to tell you other then go buy yourself a set of 15 inch steelies from VW and then a set of 195 65 15 tires somewhere

Yes, I read your post. Just making sure because we have cars that are 3 years apart and it's possible that specs can change.

When I bought my GSW last January (15" alloys stock) the dealer tried selling me into a winter wheel/tire package for $850. I told him I could source my favorite snow tire and new rims for several hundred less, and walked away.

I called another local VW dealer who had new 15" steelie take-offs from a Jetta and he sold me a set of four with OEM plastic wheel covers (I prefer the look of black steelies but wifiey likes the wheel covers) for $200 for a set of four. I got a set of Michelin X-Ice XI3 195/65R15 installed for $450, so for $650 I had a brand new set of winters.

So ask around your local dealers about new car take-off steelies. You might end up getting them for the same price as aftermarket steelies.

Congrats on your golf!! I’m also from Ottawa and purchased a highline a few months ago. Mine are normally 18” but im running 205/55/16 in the winter. I drove on sunday when it was pretty icy under all that snow and she handled it fine!
