I'm looking at new tires and wanted to know should I go 245 45r18 or 245 40r18 I'm going to be at stock height with 18x8 rims. Also is there much of a difference in handling etc with side wall height?
Unless you REALLY need:
1) better wheel protection I.e. Shock absorption from severe potholes
2) softer ride due to back problems
3) marginally higher ride height for I don't know, offroading
Go with 245/40
They'll give you more accurate speedo
Less likely to rub
Look better (subjective)
I'm not sure if this helps, but on my R, I have 245/40 18 PSS on 18x8.5 wheels at stock height, and they rub when I hit big bumps or corner hard. I haven't done the screw mod yet.
I have the stock hankook 225/40/18s. Will be replacing soon, plan to go with same size on my stock wheels, as I have heard too many issues with larger er tires on stock wheels My .02
Running 245 40 18's with decent drop and I'm getting occasional rubbing. Going to do the fender screw delete tonight, and will chime back in if that fixes it.
