Thanks to many humble bundles back in the day I'm also almost in the 500 club. I think this earns us a place in the DSMIV.

In all seriousness though, I'm almost 35 and still play a ton of games. I don't see myself stopping while my hands still work.

You guys are ahead of me, but I'm not TOO far behind...

^Thats awesome I will def check that out.

And actually this brings me to a hot topic I like to discuss. So to the parents in here, how are you handling exposing your little ones to violent video games/movies/media?

Always a tough subject. My boys are older now, 19 and 17, so it's not as much of an issue for me anymore.

I'd have to say, the most important thing is discussion/conversation/education regarding media content. It's easy to police what they do at home but, when they're at school, or over at a friend's house, etc., you can't be there to guide them. But, if you instill in them values and an understanding about what's real and what's over-the-top for show, they'll have that to take with them and use as a reference for what they may be exposed to.

This interconnected, media at-a-glance world we live in today is much different than it used to be.

The other thing is just to accept that they WILL, at some point, see things they maybe shouldn't, but it's not the end of the world. My friends and I snuck in to see Alien when I was eight, and Excalibur when I was ten, among other things. I found my uncles' Playboy and Penthouse magazines around the same time. Being exposed to these sexual and/or violent stimuli didn't wreck my life or create problems for me or my family down the road.

Admittedly, though, the Internet of today is much more graphic than Playboy or Alien...

BF1 and World of Tanks here. But in general I don't have the time for them like I used to. Find myself not able to play as long and most games get boring a lot quicker as I get older.

It's a whole other environment brother... I grew up in the 90s so all the gore and stuff was just the norm until the media started linking video games to school shootings, etc. End of the day, with my own wit and of course some good guidance I knew right from wrong, real vs fake. I feel for parents nowadays tho, it's really hard to compete with all the social media and garbage we have now. Wasn't like when we were kids where "sneaking into a R movie" was a bad and horrible thing to do. No kids here tho, and don't plan on any so thankfully I don't really have to worry about it. But it makes for good discussion I guess.

Totally feel that. There's no way I can sit through an RPG nowadays versus as a kid.

I grew up in the 80's...the Atari 2600 was my first system. OG NES and Gamecube. I've had every PS system up to the PS4. I still got my Saturn, Genesis, Sega CD...somewhere. Still got my Nintendo handhelds. Picked up the NES and Super NES classic. Lol...also a game tester for a number of years. I was into it.

Anyone rocking one of the SNES classic or SFC classic platforms? I only ask because through a series of weird events involving international shipping I ended up with two 8Bitdo SF30 controllers. They retail for like $25 a piece but if someone wants them, I'll let them go for $40 shipped within the US. Below is a link for the controllers, PM me if you're interested.

Oh yeah, currently addicted to War Thunder and the new God of War. I pumped an ungodly number of hours into DotA during highschool.

Super happy I'm not anymore. I was growing up. Logged 226 days on my World of Warcraft account, and I only had it for 2 years and 4 months (or, an average of 6.38 hours a day. I was also in school at the time, so that says a lot about how much time i spent between sleep, school, and WoW).

Haven't played a video game/owned a system in over 4 years.

Hey man my best friends in my neighborhood were 4 years older than me, so when I was 9, they were 13. This was 2003, aka the dawning of filesharing sites like bearshare, kazaa, limewire, etc etc. I was exposed to porn when I was 9, and played violent video games at the same time. Also watched a ton of rated R movies like pulp fiction. I'm now 24 and a super normal, well-adjusted human. I've never gotten my stomach pumped, never gotten anyone pregnant, and have never been in trouble with the law (though I will admit, probably due to sheer luck). I don't believe that exposing children to so-called "inappropriate media" causes damage to their psyches. But maybe I'm an outlier.

I've played violent video games since I was maybe 6 years old, similar experiences to GolfWang. Internet definitely added a whole new level of exposure. My friend was into 4chan in middle school and his parents were never around policing us, so from 12 or 13 years old, arguably the most influential time during someones life, I saw brutal videos and things I wouldn't want to see again

I turned out okay, haven't murdered/raped or thought of murdering/raping anybody. I don't believe that any content can cause someone to become a bad person. I think it is hard wired in the way that kids are brought up. If parents arent around to teach their kids right from wrong, then maybe I could see how some kids would adopt video games as teaching, but I think its a scapegoat argument.
