Alltrack DeAutoKey LED brake light comparison video

I just got a set of DeAutoKey LEDs for my 2017 Alltrack SE. The turn signals are amber but I haven't removed the red filter from the housing. They still look red to me but I've seen comments by others that amber behind red looks weird.

I installed them on the left side only and made comparison videos in different lighting conditions. Conclusion: Red LED brake lights are dimmer. Will try changing in VCDS from 100 to 127. The instant illumination is noticeably better.

I didn't realize until making these videos that the turn signal rectangles act as brake lights, and I like the extra brake glow. I'm considering leaving the red filters in and keeping the current 5 brake + outer turn signal programming

This is the product link, mine is the dropdown option with 2 amber http://deautokey.com/product/comple...mkvii-2015-volkswagen-gti-golf-sportwagen-gsw

Whenever something eventually burns out on my LP 2016, I will probably go with deautokey for a replacement set. You like them so far?

That said, I am jaw completely on the floor shocked that there's been a 3 hour old thread mentioning D.A.K. without the company owner filling the thread with 3 or 4 spam walls of text and promo pics.

I do hope he finally realizes that he needs to use his right to remain silent and just let the forum talk about his products unless there's a specific support question that he can help with, and then stays on point with just the answer.

If that does actually happen, I've got to finish my handmade turtleneck and mittens for Lucifer.

I like them despite being dimmer because I think the instant illumination is a safety benefit, and I'm going to try to code them for 127 brightness with VCDS if I can get the program to work. Currently it tries to update the firmware on my Hex V2 and then when connection fails everything is greyed out

I thought I had a page with the coding to increase brightness to 127 but it turned out to be for the Atlas! I went to one of the settings and it was 0 so the bulb assignments must be different on that vehicle.

Maybe some logic can be applied to this...

Four (Five) Brake Lights

Left side inner:
Change [8] Leuchte23sl HLC10 - Lichtfunktion C23 from Not Active to Brake Light
Change [10] Leuchte23sl hcl10 - Dimmwert CD 23 from 0 to 100
Right side inner:
Change [8] Leuchte24sl HRA65 - Lichtfunktion C24 from Not Active to Brake Light
Change [10] Leuchte24sl HRA65 - Dimmwert CD 24 from 0 to 100

4 tail turn signal

All I can decipher is left inner is Leuchte23sl HLC10 and right inner is Leuchte24sl HRA65

I found this but it's for the regular Golf not the wagon. He's not adjusting the max brightness but you can see it on the screen

I adjusted the hatch lights to 127 and they are still identical in brightness to the outer body mounted lights which are stock at 100. I don't think increasing values above 100 does anything

Thanks for sharing!

In that video is that stock with NO VCD coding?

Yes you said it - there are a few reasons why our LEDs are so popular:
-instant on/off
-can be seen in direct sun light
-bright contrast between brake/tails which is most important as many LEDs lack this feature making it unsafe

We feel a major factor is the VW housing design. We have used these same LEDs in other housings that are not VW and they looked brighter. The way they align the diodes in the housing can cause different brightness levels.

Thanks again for sharing

It's not stock but the only thing I changed was I enabled the hatch mounted brake lights.

After the video I adjusted the hatch lights to 127 brightness but couldn't see any difference.

I don't know if that means a) it's too small a difference to notice or b) 100 is the max value and higher values just get read by the computer as 100

I tested the 127 vs 100 brightness by setting my hatch lights to be a steady 100 and turn signal blink to 127.

There was zero difference in brightness! 127 should be over 1/4 brighter than 100 but it's none brighter, so I'm pretty sure the range is 0 to 100.

I do have my bulb type set to incandescent. The thread I linked to above has speculation that bulb type affects what the brightness number does, but I doubt that. Still, I'll keep experimenting

I just installed DeAutoKey front turn signals and made a comparison video with the LED on the right of the car and stock on the left of the car. The LED is brighter and I think a deeper orange. I measured the power draw and the LED PWY24W amber are only 0.26 amps which is 3.1 watts

Thanks for sharing. This was a tricky bulb. The VW turn has a very tiny space so we had to miniaturize the components for this specific turn signal LED:
