How much total $$$ have you spent on mods??

About $2,500 so far, with about $2,000 more in two weeks when I'm adding the APR intercooler and AWE Touring exhaust.

I think of it this way. I paid 27K for my Autobahn. Add 5K in mods and I have a heck of a car for 32K.

I'm at about 2200 right now. RSe10s, Firehawk Indy 500s, JB1, BMS CAI, VWR springs. Only the JB1 is installed though lol.

Still have GTI Jake's FMIC, AWE downpipe, IS38 or a hybrid, stage 2 clutch, and probably an APR tune to go and I'll be happy.

This made me curious so I started adding it all up. Around $5k so far and I'm not even done.

I figure I'll be around $8k when I'm all done buying parts and everything is installed (I'm doing most of it myself, but will probably pay for the clutch and suspension to be installed for me). Closer to $10k if I go with a new turbo (even an IS38 with a retune can get near $2k). This is a much more expensive habit than I thought...

A shameful 10K. But the car is in an amazing stable and reliable state with enough power and aesthetics to please me every ride. Thats priceless.

(Mod Joy-for-Cost Rating) Cost and description

(10/10) $500ish JB1, then upgraded to JB4 (first and still best upgrade)
(10/10) $600 wheels/tires ($520 for 4 Konig wheels + 480 for tires minus $400 selling Austins/tires)
(9/10) $500 Helix subwoofer and installation (great deal at dealer for once!)
(9/10) $50 034 Dogbone insert
(9/10) $700 VWR lowering springs and installation
(8/10) $70 Raceland spacers
(8/10) $500 CTS catted downpipe and new gasket, self-install
(8/10) $60 OBD Eleven
(6/10) $120 Bluetooth for JB4
(6/10) $20 Black front/rear VW emblems
(5/10) $50 Dashcam for drag strip
(5/10) $120 deAutokey LEDs
(2/10) $70 Side Mirrors (waste of money)
(0/10) $5 stickers I took off when I remembered I'm 40+ years old

That's around $3,300. I figure I could probably get $800-$1,000 back out from the JB4/bluetooth/downpipe/misc. if I had to. I won't count buying jackstands, a low-profile jack, tools, etc.

NOW, LET THE JUSTIFICATION BEGIN!

I bought my 2016 DSG S brand new at height of Dieselgate for $23K -- normally I always buy one year old to let someone else take the 20-25% depreciation hit, but this was a solid deal and I wanted CarPlay, which was just out. Financed 60 months @ 1.9% -- that's almost-free money.

I've gotten a shit-ton of joy out of my $26.3K ($23 + 3.3) so far.

The only cars I cross-shopped at the time were 2011-13 BMW 335s, which I love, but which were "old" and likely to cost much more over time; I keep my cars for 10 years.

END JUSTIFICATION.

Plus this shit is real, real fun. The next things on my list are a FMIC, DSG tune, and a Dragy.

It cracks me up that after 10000 plus posts no one else has had the balz to ask this “pink elephant” in the room question. Are we embarrassed that we want to be faster than our other brothers? Easy 3500 to date. Fuck yeah!
