looking forward for my first oil change on my own.. Here is couple of questions

1. What oil is everyone using on their MK7.5? Live in NYC area, winter can get cold

2. Where do you order your OEM oil filter and plug

Planning to do my first Oil change after 1000 miles.

Dealers usually run excellent deals for oil changes, and you'll have solid documentation if you have a problem.

for DYI just keep pics of your receipts. There's no question if you can show: oil purchase & filter purchase at recommended intervals.

You have to use oil as recommended by VW: 502 and 505 approvals. Mobil 1 is good for weather extremes (0W-40 Euro formula). A bit awkward though because you have to buy a 5qt jug + 1 qt for the 6 qts required. Or just keep an extra 5 qt jug from which you draw down the additional qt with each change.

You'll notice that oils for high performance vehicles (VW, Porsche etc) have high zinc (anti-wear) additive levels (1100 ppm)

Mk7.5’s have a sticker under the hood stating 502 00 or 504 00. VW appears to feel the US has purged itself of sulfur in their fuel so a low-SAPS oil is the choice. 505 00 doesn’t matter to the U.S. as it’s a diesel spec with after treatment...unless the OP has the only GTD in America :)

PP Euro LX or M1 ESP are the common options for 504, Castrol 0w-40 is commonly available at any Walmart for 502 on the cheap.

OP, I get my plugs and filters from Amazon in multi-packs. Check out Rockauto.com too as they have the OE Mann filters and drain plugs. Whatever is cheaper.
