I recently rented a base Mk7 Jetta. While sitting at a light I looked over and there was this Hyundai revving his engine. It was on.

We were on a bit of a decline, so when the light turned green I put it in neutral and shut down the 89' Excel.

Ha!

Stock those came with probably 75hp. Probably down to 50 at this point. But still great power to weight as the panels were made of aluminum foil I believe. Truly a death trap.

Back in high school when I had a mk2 diesel (non turbo 1.6L) as a daily I raced EVERYONE.

Nobody noticed. Lol

52hp at the crank when new, she had a way with the ladies tho. Mint, diesel, and rollin on 13s the ol Jetta was a catch

The Excel and the Yugo were vying for worst new car of that era.

The security people in our office had a couple Excels in the early 90's. I was walking by one day when the guard got out of the car and slammed the door and the mirror fell off. He told me the same thing had happened on the other side a few weeks prior.
