I have three wires into adapter...two for 12v and one for the light ring around the old 12V socket/

MY 2017 does not have the light, only just 2 wires. Ground and positive.
I used these crimp connectors to make me a little adapter wire so I did not cut the adapter off.

It is hard to see the yellow. But, yellow is my favorite color on headlights/running lights. Looks awesome to me! I tried yellow film since I have performance headlights and got pulled over within a month. Looked great, but not worth the hassle here in Texas.
