MIB1 touchscreen replace

Some jackass broke into my Mk7R and ripped the touchscreen out. My question is can I replace just the screen with another MIB1 screen or do I need to replace the brains as well?

I've searched and can only find people upgrading to MIB2 but I'm just trying to save some cash and the MIB1 unit doesn't bother me too much.

You can just replace the screen as long as they didn't get into the glove box and mangle the brain.

Suggestion: post in the various Golf/GTI/R forums and I'd think you can find one on the cheap fairly easily. A bunch of people have upgraded from MIB1 to MIB2 by now and should just be sitting on those old screens. Good luck!
