Looking for recommendations for an exhaust shop around San Mateo. I want to remove the stock muffler, have custom pipes routed out the center, and weld tips to the ends to work with the oem duel center rear valance.

I got nothing for you in San Mateo, but if you can go see Andy Wang at Classic Muffler in SJ you will be well taken care of. Dude's awesome and inexpensive. He was recommended to me and I was impressed with his professionalism and how he could do literally 5 things at once.

He was welding, holding the mask, smoking a cigarette, on the phone with a customer, and asking me for my input on the tip angles of his test welds all at once. I know he has a mandrel bending machine and can fab up anything you want.

https://www.yelp.com/biz/classic-muffler-service-center-san-jose you don't have to take my word for it though, he's got nearly 300 reviews and 4.5 stars on Yelp too.

Per my post here: https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23508&highlight=tips
I'd get the JST139 tips from eBay. Thats what he welded on for me and they are perfect 4"

Thanks for sharing and for the recommendations on shop and tips. Those $34 tips are a steal. I found this place in Belmont. Got good reviews on yelp and they have been very quick to respond to my questions. I think I’m going to give them a try. San Jose is far enough where I need to take time off from work. I can swing a long lunch with this place in Belmont.

Will he refuse to work on one's car if it not catted?

Don't know my shops in San Mateo, but if you're ever on the other side of the bridge Johnny Franklin's Muffler in San Rafael has done right by me on several occasions.

Ended up going with a local shop in Belmont called Exhaust Works. The owner did a decent job. The tips were slightly off center side to side but they are level and sticks out evenly on both sides. Looks good overall. Price was good. The exhaust also developed some rattle a few months later (not the shops fault but due to the way AWE routed a section of the pipe) that he happily fixed free of charge. I would go back to the shop but I would recommend sticking around and make sure things look perfectly aligned before the final weld gets put in.
