I sanded and touched up the scrapes on either caliper,none were more than small paint chips. Exactly as you see in the pics at top, taken couple days ago

I'm starting to rethink spacers now. Rims are the only reason these are not on my car.
I dislike spacers, too, but it might not be a bad compromise if you want to keep the brakes.
Properly designed spacers should work just fine.
You'd also need longer wheel bolts to ensure that the wheels are properly fastened to the hubs.
