I have a bit of a Frankenstein exhaust with a VWR catless downpipe, AWE track cat back and a 17950 Vibrant resonator. I hated the catless fumes and it was still a touch too loud for DD as far as I do everyday. Solution was to put a cheapo magnaflow cat way back just in front of my Vibrant res. I was worried that would be too far back and there wouldn't be enough heat for the cat to work but it seems to be working fine based on the total lack of smell. Volume is just right for my tastes now.

Ok guys here i am ; i have a 2015 GTi with a borla cat back. The sound was perfect till the day i install a CTS 3.5inch catless downpipe with the ecu/tcu stage 2. The drone is VERY annoying. I cant even go over 2000rpm cause its too loud and it dont sound good

Do you guys think the vibrant 17930 will help ? Should i install a highflow catback on my downpipe too ? Thanksss

Vibrant resonator should help.

I'd be interested to hear how that turns out... I currently have the catless CTS DP paired up with stock exhaust (which sounds great to me)... I'd like to eventually swap out the stock exhaust for a full 3" option, but I'm confident that regardless of the exhaust chosen, the sound/drone will be unbearable w/o adding an additional resonator or cat.

You need the 17950 - I'm sure it will help

For those thinking of doing this ideally the 17950 would be mounted a few feet further back. The same heat making that cat work is gonna burn the packing out of the resonator

It’s only 8-10 inches from the first big bend to the rear, almost exactly where AWE puts their touring res. But fair enough thought about the heat. I'll post here if I ever have any problems or it starts sounding like it's getting burned out.

The close proximity of the cat made it deceiving.

Here’s two more Vibrant 17950 installs I did recently and a video https://youtu.be/mWRnjL8wZWE

After a couple thousand miles my Magneflow 12646 has opened up a bit. Starting to hear the DSG farts again with windows down. Happy about that but we'll see if it keeps getting louder over time or not.

How is it that the Vibrant is so much more effective at handling drone when it is so much smaller than the stock resonator?

Its a matter of volume, since the OEM is a triangular, space saving design theres actually less volume within even though its longer in overall length.

Also, the packing within the vibrant units are more of a proprietary mixture of stranded wire mesh versus the OEM which i believe to be hollow with more of a helmholtz, louvered design.

Some of my info could be incorrect and i'm sure others would provide more accurate info.

But seriously the internal construction and volume is correct for the flow of an aftermarket downpipe. The OEM one is only really effective with the super restrictive OEM downpipe.

Luckily for the few hundred people running them I figured that out via the guess and check method March 6, 2017

After I swapped on a catted CTS downpipe, I also wasn't happy with the exhaust sound/tone. I've had a half-dozen turbocharged/modified cars, and the MK7 Gti definitely has the strangest result with an aftermarket downpipe:

Gti Jake is 100% on the money that the stock downpipe kills most of the sound; the stock resonator/muffler don't dampen a whole lot, since VW probably wanted a little bit of sportiness to the exhaust tone.

What that meant for my install (catted CTS, stock everything else) was very dampened exhaust note from idle -> 2700 rpms, aggressive sound from 2700->2900 rpms, and blatty/ricey from 3k+.
In normal driving, it was cringe-inducing revving anywhere over 2800 rpms at any throttle position.

After having a Vibrant 17930 swapped in place of the stock resonator, the exhaust is slightly lower in tone, and sounds very near stock: Slightly more sporty/aggressive, but fairly even across the RPM range (rather than the near silent straight into annoying of previous).

Thanks for spreading the word Gti jake, Vibrant owes you a kickback on these things; they really are the best solution for a nice even tone.
