Me too! I think the Diesel engine in these things sounds horrible to be honest - a lot louder and less smooth than previous generations in my opinion - I thought I had a problem at first!! As for the noise, I first noticed it at about 30k on mine. Two years later I'm at 85k with no issues. The noise drives me mad though!! I would suggest that when you have the timing belt done (130k supposedly on these), you get them to change the oil pump drive belt as well. VW claim it is a lifetime of the engine item, probably because when that belt snaps, the oil pump stops and the engine life is over!! However, it is not a lot more work to get to it once the timing chain etc. Is removed anyway, so it gives peace of mind and the cost of that extra work will be a lot lower than if it breaks!!
