Where is everyone going for tunes around KC? Bob Hindson quoted me $820 for an APR stage 1 tune + $58 for reflashes. That price is making me lean towards a JB4.....

If you're not dead set on APR, I'd suggest grabbing a Cobb Accessport through 5150 Racing. Flash at home, revert to stock for dealer work (yes technically still detectable like every other tune, but much better than paying $100 every time to re-flash APR), enhanced traction control, plus upcoming features like no-lift shift, launch control, etc. Cost me $700, which includes e-tunes for both gas and E30. Currently sorting out my 91 octane tune, and the car really scorches. It feels leaps and bounds stronger than my old JB4. Can't wait to finish the 91 tune and move on to E30 for another 20-30 hp.

But if you're sold on APR or whatever, I can understand. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Bob Hindson is the only APR dealer in the metro. Or if you're ever down by Joplin, PHP Specialists is also an APR dealer. They're a fantastic shop, had my clutch done there.

I'm not really deadset on anything yet. APR is where I looked first because thats a name I've recognized over the years is all. I did like the appeal of the JB4 being undetectable (or is that not true?) but I'm glad you shared your experience regarding the Cobb.

Did you by chance get on a dyno? I'm curious what kinda power this car will make on 91oct with the canned Cobb tune.

Currently JB4 is for all intents and purposes undetectable if removed, which is a big selling point. Haven't had mine on the dyno yet since we're still making revisions to the tune. Once I get that and the E30 tune done, I'm sure I'll get it on the dyno soon afterwards. Probably another 6 weeks or so before everything is dialed in, as 5150 is pretty busy these days. I will say the Cobb canned tunes are very conservative, and my JB1/JB4 felt stronger. I'd definitely recommend JB4 if it's between that or the canned Cobb tune (and you have no desire to e-tune). E-tunes are super easy, it just takes a bit of time with the back and forth between you and the tuner.

In my brief stint of research, I think if I decide to pull the trigger within warranty, I will go JB4. If I wait, I'm looking hard at Eurodyne and Cobb.

Or I may do JB4 then sell it after warranty expires and switch

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the JB4. Got mine dialed in and am really happy with the power increase and delivery.

Not a bad plan. Can't go wrong with a JB4, and like you said, it has resale value in case you decide to upgrade in the future.

Edit: Cobb also has resale value, but I can totally understand if you have warranty concerns.

Nearly 40k miles on Eurodyne. Zero issues. Car will probably blow up tomorrow now...

Keeping my warranty is key after reading all these posts regarding water pumps, DSG issues, and turbos failing under 40k. I feel like maybe I should've done more research on issues with GTI's before pulling the trigger.....not that my GTO was what I'd call reliable but at least I didn't have to replace the wp until 100k....:D

Anyone knows of VW techs that do work on the side? i have one lined up for my turbo install, but i've been getting a interesting, sorta "i'll let you know" vibe from him. don't wanna sit on this turbo for a month or 2.

I think the issue is if they have access to a lift or can use their own shop. There was a guy at Northland that seemed to have access.
