Navigation: "Positioning data not available"

Over the past couple of weeks the nav system in my 2019 GTI has been periodically showing a "positioning data not available" message in the IC display vs. the expected compass rose with street/road information. Most of the times when that message shows up, the nav continues to display correct location information.

This condition has been occurring more frequently and staying for longer and longer periods.

I am still getting the traffic status and speed limit graphics.

Has anyone else experienced this and can you tell me what is going on?

A quick 'bump' in the hopes that someone else has seen this problem.

I am noticing that when I get the error that the nav display it is sometimes not correctly showing the car's position on the map. It kind of wanders off in some apparently random direction until it latches on to some other road.
