I wouldn't try to make it from one supercharger to another in the winter with the standard batteries. They do mention you lose range when you drive in performance modes. I suppose if you run out of power on a long trip you need to be towed to a supercharger station.

They better perfect their battery swap stations, because there's no way they'll be able to accommodate all of the electric cars soon. And if you're like me, you won't want to swap your new battery for a used one. Will the typical Tesla owner not give a crap about this? Tesla would need to guarantee the battery for the life of the car for me to even consider it. I suppose if I had more zeroes after my net worth I wouldn't care.
