Brake Flush? Spark Plugs?

30,000 so called service interval is coming up and dealer says I should get the brake flush, which is $131. They also said at 40,000 I should do DSG fluid for $369 and spark plug replacement that totals to around $900. Do I really need a brake flush and new spark plugs? Never done a brake flush on any other car I've had and never replaced spark plugs. But VW is new to me so I need to figure out if its an upsell by the stealership or something really worth having done? I obviously will do the DSG fluid change

All cars should have the brake fluid flushed every 2 years as brake fluid absorbs moisture causing seals to harden and rust to form internally. Your owner's manual has all of the required maintenance listed by mileage and brake fluid by time.

At the very least save yourself a few bucks and do spark plugs yourself a very easy job with minimal tooling and know how needed.

VW manual for brake fluid is first time 3 years from build date, every 2 years after that. For ease of remembering i just do it whenever i change the brakes (so far right around the 2 year mark). It's fairly cheap and worth doing.

For spark plugs do it at an independent shop it'll be way less. You can buy the plugs yourself for like $100 and then pay a shop a half hour or so to do it. Dealership quoted me $400 to do it haha.

It’s all in your maintenance manual that came free with your car!

Just did the 40k service myself last week:

$50 for a set of plugs
$15 cabin air filter
$15 liter of DOT4-LV brake fluid
$50 Ravenol MTF
$35 oil & filter
Install summer tires.

...doesn’t add up to $900, but I can DIY

You don't want the engine to have misfires from failing sparkplugs as it can cause CAT issues, poor drivability, emissions faults, check engine lights as well as stress ignition coils to the max with widening plug gaps.

Spark plugs are essential tho replace? Wouldnt one just wait til they die out?

You definitely want to all of the regular maintenance as scheduled including spark plugs.

$900 is insane mark up, but DIY is fairly simple or as others said find a good euro specialist to do it for a little more than half the dealership quote

It's never too late to start learning how to DIY your service! There's plenty of info and handy guides out there for everything regarding basic maintenance on the Mk7.

Though if you would really rather get a pro to do the work, go to an independent shop. Dealers are really just there for warranty work, anything else will cost you an arm and a leg compared to independent shops.

Most likely anything the dealer offers to do is an upsell. Refer to your owner's manual, not the "menu" at the stealership. The dealer will absolutely push you to do work much more often than the manual (or good sense) requires.

I get regular emails from the Lexus dealer for my wife's car, recommending we come in for a 5K service that is the same job as the 10K in the manual.
