Is this possible? Looks like the fender sub fits in the spare tire vs. the Helix one. Or would I have to upgrade the entire system?

Get the Helix, it's way better. You can fit it on top of the spare rather easily as well. There are a couple of threads that show this.

Not without a bunch of parts, time & money.
You need (at the minimum) the whole Fender wiring harness, the sub and the amp. Then you have to run it all.
The Helix is a easier/better option anyways
