I don't necessarily recommend the Strano bar but its popular. I think its not stiff enough but Sam disputes that.

Shit. 7.5 then. Been awhile since autox. I had an s2000 with gendron front bar and it was most certainly overkill , but that car was a little hairy without it. Did you have any rub with 245s?ill look into H&R thanks for the info.8s are not legal for GTI in Street(stock is 7.5)
Sam's theory is that the stock bar can pick the rear tire up so it should be stiff enough. The stock bar as bonded bushing and his does not so it should be more progressive in its action. IIRC stock is something like 21.x mm or 22mm hollow and his is 22mm solid.
While its true the stock bar can indeed pick up the rear tire, there are plenty of situation where the rear tire is still on the ground that the stiffer and more rear bias lateral load transfer will affect the balance of the car and from me and my codriver doing back to back runs between H&R(I bought this first, then I donated my stock rear bar to Sam so he can make his rear bar, which he then sent to me to test) and his bar we both prefer the balance and the time was better on the H&R. He has told me repeatedly that he thinks I made a mistake.
Now no disputing a lot of people, fast people, run on his bar for the GTI(or FoST, which shares the similar kind of philosophy), and yes, there are instance for sure the H&R may be overkill, but in most of my time autocrossing my MK7 that I have no doubt the car works just fine with the H&R, or in general, stiffer than Strano bar. We have results to back up our belief on the car. Keep in mind also I based my setup around the 245 square setup, so I probably have more rear tire than you need, so you probably want more rear bar, but that is not an uncommon setup. I think the car drove better once we have better shocks on the car also. But when the car won Toledo Pro in GS by more than a sec, was the top qualifier, and 10th on Pax in 2017(my codriver, not me), we were on stock front shocks because the fancy DAs were being rebuilt.
YMMV, I don't run GTI anymore...
Also VAGCOM adjustment to turn ESC off is NOT legal.
How about by pressing and holding the button, is that legal?
Out of curiosity, do you find the ESC intervening in autox conditions? I can tell if i've forgotten to turn it off when i'm at highway speeds and there are occasions where it is downright unsettling.
I upgraded to the ST rear sway bar a few thousand miles ago and am very pleased. It's a great value and makes a noticeable difference in daily driving. I did end up replacing the included self-lubricating bushings since I had some noise issues.
I suppose the perturbation may be more observable on a smooth high speed course than on an autox course since in the latter case there is no sustained steady state, the car is being thrown about by the wheel and pedals and the driver maybe tossed a bit in the seat My right knee always gets banged up when i'm throwing the car around, i need a pad on the console or something.
