Ambient light on drivers side not working.

Hopefully this in the right area. I just bought my golf recently its obviously out of warranty. The ambient light on the drivers side door panel stopped working the rest are working fine. I found little information about this online besides the fact that its an expensive fix. Has anyone ever experienced this ?
When I lock the car the light flashes while the other side fades slowly this is the only sign of life left in it.
Besides that it does not working at all.
Any information regarding this , parts etc would be great thanks.
Edit : I actually did buy my car used from a garage in Ireland and it came with a 3 months warranty. So i think i will bring this up to them soon. Still any information on this would be great even a part number.

Sorry I should have been clearer its the one that runs along the door panel. Heres a picture from google.

Another user had the same issue, the LED(s) had died and the strips need replacements.
