Hi from warm and sunny North East England

Not often I can say that!

Glad I have found an R owners forum - I got used to very active forums for Skoda and Volvo, but VW seems remarkably quiet.

Picked up my new Golf on Thursday. Never had an actual VW before, but SWMBO has had a Polo Blue GT for 4 years and loves it. Previously my favourite car was a Skoda Octavia but third generation grew too big and lost bits I liked. Volvo XC60 since then, but never really got on with it.

This one feels like its on rails round bends.

Everything about a GTD and R estate makes sense and my head completely buys into one. Why then do I not want to buy one? it's not the looks, I think they look great, it just doesn't seem quite right. I think after owning Golfs in every guise since 1982 all my instincts just say that hot Golfs should be in a hatchback sized packet.

Give me another couple of years and I'll be buying one, it took me 10 years to get used to the idea of a 5 door GTi!
