Winter wheel, steel vs alloy in salt

Jdreg

Ready to race!
My two experiences running alloy wheels in a salty winter environment, led to corrosion causing leaks at the bead. On steel rims I’ve never had this issue.

For those running alloy wheels on salty winter roads, is there a particular type of wheel that can withstand this environment or are you experiencing the same problem
Thanks

I've used the same cheap ($125 CAD ea) 17" alloy wheels for 2 full winters on my Mk7. And the wheels look exactly like when I bought them. I don't do anything special to them for cleaning or treating them. Also no leaks - just lose a few PSI from being stored in the summers, which is pretty normal.

I didn't buy them from this store, but these are the wheels I got (in 5x112 of course) with Conti WinterContact Si.

My old car with steels for winter, the wheels all had rust patches on them. YMMV (obviously).
