Remove usb/aux storage area

Hi all!

Any idea how to remove this cubby hole?

I'm swapping the USB connection and need to remove the housing but I'm struggling to remove it.

I've tried pulling upwards with the gear surround trim gone and trying to attack from underneath. Also tried pulling the lid but with a fear of breaking it...

On my 2014, I put a long screwdriver into one of the holes and pry upwards; it's held in with clips that just pop out.

Whether the design has changed, I really dont know.

Super curious to see what you wound up doing with it! I hate the fact that I can't run the cable and close the compartment door. Was thinking about running the cable into a blank button on the shifter cluster.
