12. Center Armrest Felt-Lined Organizer

Well a month back I unlocked the center armrest, so naturally it now must be made a bit more useful. So if only there was an insert to tier the cubby?? A quick ebay, amazon, aliexpress search and magic!....there is one. It looked a little suspect on quality, but I decided to risk it. Ordered from china on aliexpress and it arrived about 2 weeks later, as advertised. It was listed for MY 13-14, but it fits my R (a little snug, but it fits).

Cost: Wide range depending on source, but $15-20.

Felt - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007O0NO4I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Advice: It comes with rubber pads, but I opted to felt-line the tray instead. I had left over felt paper from my driver's box mod. To felt the tray was a pain, but now no rattles from coins, keys or whatever else that could role around.

Overall I'm pleased. I may actually drill a hole in a corner somewhere big enough for my finger as its not really easy to remove if you want to get underneath.

I've looked for one of these on eBay but most all of them say they are for the golf only and don't fit the GTI. Is there really any difference in the armrest from the golf / GTI / R?

Basemodel - Yeah, I like that it sticks to magnet, but the cord won't run even when not. It has some slack, but the path of the cord keeps it close. I ended up running the cord thru the vent from the bottom of the vent and really close to the fins. This way I have more control of the slack.

SKVeeduber - I researched before I went with magnet. There is some debate, but the majority seem to say no it doesn't. I can't say 100%, but I wouldn't think there would be so many magnetic holders on the market if this was a problem. I've known some users of mounts like this for years and I haven't heard of issues. On the cable, there are actually lightening and other cables on the market that have magnetic connect ends, so I think I'm safe.

36. Shift Knob Redo - Raceseng

36. Shift Knob Redo - Raceseng

Mod: Alright, yes, if you've read my build thread you would have seen that I upgraded my shift knob previously with the BFI Alcantara. So what gives SABO? While I have no complaints with this knob, something didn't feel quite right when paired with the Sigma Six short shifter. A little too much force and clunk. For the longest time, I thought it might be the notchiness of the new shifter, but then I started contemplating throw weight.

The BFI weighs in ~205 grams and the new Raceseng weighs in at ~407 grams. Would this be the difference? Only one spin around the block and no doubt. This pairing of Raceseng's weight and DG sigma 6 is now how it should be.

What: Custom Raceseng! Model Sphereology with black delrin cover and gloss metallic black core, however I had them only coat the top of the core and left the bottom ring raw SS. Now comparing the two knobs, Raceseng gets my vote by a mile. Great quality and the guys at Raceseng couldn't have been nicer on the custom coating order. Very responsive when emailed about it. i usually don't spout too much about a particular product because too each their own, but i'm telling you....this knob takes it. (FYI - I have no affiliation other than this order)

Well damn.... haha you're doing many of the same mods I've been doing... and I thought I was an innovator.:p.. I even spent hours learning to take apart the center console... I even made a video... of the teardown cuz I really couldnt find anything anywhere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7k-nztBnSk&t=6s

Even the Lightning cable. I had mine come from a different location, but still.... I like being the only one with cool stuff... hahaha... good for you though, I'll post my thread once I can put it all together.
