SABO! Just saw all your soundskins. Have you had a chance to weigh in on them yet? I still have been very satisfied with mine, but you took the install to another level, throwing in some extra acoustic foam and really getting a lot of pieces covered that I did not. I need to get on your level of modding + documenting! I severely lack at documenting currently. lol! Welcome back from "hibernation."

Quebster - i give you all the credit in pushing me to this mod. i did take some extra steps since i was already taking trim off! why not just go all in.

as for the skins...they definitely make a difference. the doors thump, i. notice less rock noise in the wells and can play my music on a lower setting. i was able to muffle the rear camera actuator noise some by putting both skins and foam around the mechanism. that said i still think it is difficult to fully judge the difference without taking some audio before/after. but my gut and head say its quieter and im glad i did it.

Been busy this winter and spring wih work and kids so less work on the car for now.....just got my oil change kit and will be checkingg that off next weekend...

7. P3 Digital Multi-Gauge

If I'm being honest, this purchase was merely for looks. I can say, I really have no interest in the readouts of this gauge (as I'm not a racetrack junkie), nor do I fully understand reading boost (Critics may boo now). I loved the factory look of the vent mount style along with the matching blue R lights. Install was easy on included directions. Took under 45 minutes.

Cost: $375 (multi-gauge option).
$225 (boost only option).

Sold by many mod sites. Direct at http://www.p3cars.com/shop/vw/vw-golf-gti-rabbit/vw-mk7-p3-vent-gauge/
Hey I have a couple questions in regards to this. Some people say that after a while the boost gauge stops working. How has yours fared a year post install/post?

I'm looking to buy either this or a standard analog gauge and run the wiring through the vent on the top. Would you recommend this product over buying a kit and mounting it in the area where that useless little window is?

26. LED Light Strip Under Hatch Cover

Back at it. So I know I posted in the DIY, but i've added yet more LIGHTING. Can never have enough, right? Wanted better coverage in the trunk, so I decided on a LED strip light and mounted it under the hatch cover.

DIY Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/46ckjh292d...Strip.pdf?dl=0

Result is below:

Is this the led strip housing you used?

Sorry if this was already asked. Great build!

Hey sabo,

I saw that you have your windshield tinted. Can you provide me more detail on the film used, where you got it done and so on.
Also, how do you manage yearly inspection?
Do you go to a VW dealer?
Any trouble being rejected due to the windshield tint?
Do you usually tell them up front you have a tint on the windshield?
Do they allow you to put the sticker instead of them putting it on?

I think the ceramic tint is pretty clear - it just reduces IR heat transmittance, not light so much. Doubtful anyone can even tell there is a tint applied.

I think the only reason I would tell an inspection place about it is so they don't tear it if they use a razor blade to scratch off the old NY State inspection sticker in the lower corner of the windshield.

My shop reinstalled the inspection and registration using clear double sided tape but they laminated the stickers beforehand so all you have to do is pull it off with you fingers [emoji4]

33. USB Reroute

Mod:
Continuing my front cubby modifications with a rerouting of the USB connection. I currently have a retractable USB that I use to connect my phone. I typically lay my phone in the cup holder or on the passenger seat, however this take up space for drinks or space for someone's arse. Also to get your hand in that front cubby to remove the USB is well, difficult.

Why: I want to get the phone out of those spaces and mount someone permanently on the dash somewhere. I don't like phone mounts and wires running in plain view. Clean, must be clean.

Cable Route: I plan to route the cable up through the middle vents and have a mount over the airbag warning light.

Cost: Cable + grommet + Magnetic Mount ~$30.

I've found a magnetic base that charges if you've got a wireless charging device too. Might go well with that setup.
