Is it possible you switched the numbers on the theoretical top speed? I thought the MT was geared taller, at least in 5th and 6th...the reason for the slightly better EPA numbers. My MT Mk7 shows 2000 rpm at 60 mph in 6th, much taller than the DSG in my Mk6. Thanks for posting.

On the R there are different final drive ratios for gears 1-4 and gears 5&6: http://media.vw.com/doc/1342/16639762254eb40c8bd4a5.pdf

Here's the same for the GTI: http://media.vw.com/doc/1729/759942923566f0c5861a54.pdf

I'm not sure if the previous poster took that into account when making those calculations, if not the numbers for 5th and 6th would change.

Probably we need to multiply the final drive ratio with every individual gear ratio in both transmissions and compare those numbers side-by-side. I don't have the ambition to do that right now. I do know that the ratios in the Mk7 changed to accomadate the big torque increase with the valve lift engine. I believe 2nd through 6th are much taller in the MT.

Reverse -32 mph @ 6600Rpm impressive! Probably I never pass -5 mph in reverse

Yep 1-3 with a full bolt on EJ is pretty impressive. After that, not so much.

I had a 2005 STi which is pretty much the same drivetrain since they never evolved, gear ratios aside. I had full bolt on stock turbo and built motor, gt35r, meth, etc. It trapped 107 stock turbo fbo and 119 with the 35r, both on 93 pump gas (no meth used for these trap speeds).

A significant amount of mods is needed to make these cars decently fast on a roll, plus the driver mod of having the ability to shift swiftly without letting off the throttle.

IMO, a stage 2 MK7 GTi should win against 90% of the STis on a roll race.
