Do the dp first, it’s the only exhaust mod worth any performance!

Downpipes are great for gain but i was worried about using my stock tune and clutch with that much power gain. I heard the stock clutch can’t really hold up

I have 2016 Golf R Manual with APR intake and small mods.. and after putting 10,000 miles.. now i am looking into upgrade my exhaust setup ( catback first and then add downpipe)..

Below are the options.. (APR vs. Armytrix vs. Billy boat vs. Milltek vs. AWE vs. iPE)..

What do you guys think?

You really should try and meet up with someone locally that has an exhaust or DP or resonator delete to see how it sounds in person. I have the AWE SwitchPath and to my ears it sounds very good. If gave me the extra sound that I thought the Golf R was missing.

I got a great deal on it used...I agree that these valved systems are crazy priced. Try and get one used if possible.

Here are a couple of videos I made of the stock DP w/resonator delete and then the stock DP with the AWE SwitchPath exhaust:

This is a legit concern. I just hit 16k miles but I'm stock and haven't had any clutch issues. But I have a feeling just because of how I drive I'll be replacing before 30k.

I decided Milltek after lots of research. I was considering APR, but after seeing and hearing their system I made the correct choice. I also like the IPe system.

I love my APR system. I originally had it mated to the APR downpipe, and the sound was very nice with lots of character. A little loud though even with closed flaps.

Switched to an AWE resonated DP and it tamps down the volume to a more reasonable noise. It's still great sounding, though not as raw and burbly.

Everything is a trade off!

Tune and then downpipe will give you biggest gains. Cat back exhaust if you want more loudness and grumbles.

This.
Starting with just a tune and DP is the better bang-for-your-buck alternative.
