Advice on buying a new MK7

Greetings All,

I am currently located in Egypt and driving a Fiat Punto. I am looking forward to buy an MK7 by the end of this year so I am digging about it around the web before I buy.

It's offered in Egypt in 3 packages:
- 5 gears manual for $29,300
- 7 gears DSG for $32,300
- 7 gears DSG highline for $35,800

I've set my mind for the manual one as I am worried about the horror stories I've heard about the defective DSG gearboxes in MK6.

As you all can see, prices are pretty much high that the normal prices in Europe and the warranty is for 3 years.

Have anyone heard something bad about the MK7 DSG gearbox, if yes, can you share it?

If anyone have any advice, I would appreciate sharing it with me.

Thanks in advance.

I have a MK6 but not a DSG, I understand that VW has ironed out the problems with this transmission. I sure hope so as I plan on purchasing a MK7 GTI or Audi with a DSG transmission. Remember though that the DSG requires a Fluid change at 40K miles. And I understand it is pricey.

I've got a MK6 GTI with DSG, and I love it.

I've been on the MK6 forums for some 2 1/2 years now, and there are no horror stories really.
A couple of people may have had trouble, but there is no trend of DSGs being at all trouble prone.
I wouldn't hesitate to get a DSG in a MK7.
