Short answer is yes, VW has corrected the issue. You will still see issues popup here and there, but that is a downside of mass production.

The PP does most of the heavy lifting as it clamps the disk against the flywheel. The disk itself does play a large part, but in terms of the MK7 platform, the PP is the weak point.

I've used the sub frame to lift the car and pinch welds for the jack stands. As for lifting the engine, I would advise against using the oil pan. You can use the trans bell housing to hold it up.
