Just an update on my end (OP, here) — I received the Opuradio unit and got it installed.
It seemed to be new. And looks great. BUT... it's not the same as the European one, even though it is listed under the same part number,
5G0919606. I still had the malfunctioning Euro unit from eBay so I could do a direct comparison.
Basically, the Opuradio screen is a "semi-gloss" instead of full matte. It's not full gloss, either, though. I actually like it, but for any one ordering these Chinese market displays, it is NOT the same matte as the OEM NAR 6" or the Euro 8".
Additionally, the "chrome" trim bits are full shiny, instead of the more brushed / satin look of the Euro unit.
Another angle, Euro top, China bottom:
The part number sticker on the back is the same. The only major difference on the Chinese version is it says "ABT_High-2_H" instead of "ABT-High" like the Euro version label.
Interestingly they both say "Made in China".
At the end of the day, the Chinese market semi-gloss version looks great in the car, and I've even come to prefer it. The shinier chrome bits don't jump out, and the semi-gloss screen doesn't have too much glare and looks premium and upscale.
And CarPlay looks freakin' awesome.
So I'm happy. But if you're particular about aesthetics like I am, or a purist, I thought you guys might want to know about those differences if you go the Opuradio / eBay / Aliexpress route!
FWIW my "Euro" headlight switch I got on Aliexpress also has the shinier chrome trim, so that must be a choice VW made for the Chinese market.
